    The ingredients for beef pies.
    • onion - use a brown onion, chopped in half
    • olive oil
    • beef mince - use store-bought beef mince or mince your own using the Thermomix
    • cornflour - dissolved in a little cold water helps to thicken the filling
    • beef sock powder - for extra flavour
    • sauces - we use a combination of tomato, BBQ and Worcestershire sauces in this recipe
    • Vegemite - for a rich and flavoursome sauce (you can omit it if you prefer)
    • pastry - we use shortcrust pastry for the base and puff pastry for the top
    • egg - lightly beaten, for brushing the top of the pies

    Step By Step Instructions

You won't believe how easy it is to make beef pie filling using the Thermomix... super simple and hands-off!

    Expert Tips

We LOVE our Thermomix Beef Pies recipe and think you will too!

    • Ensure the MC is removed - and the splatter guard or rice basket is in place over the MC hole. This is for safety reasons and allows the steam to escape.
    • I like to use shortcrust pastry on the base and puff pastry on the top... but you can use one type of pastry if you prefer.
    • Vegemite adds a rich flavour to the sauce - however, you can omit it if you prefer.
    • Cornflour helps to thicken the sauce.
    • You can prepare the filling ahead of time and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
    • These pies can be cooked in the pie maker or in a muffin tin in the oven.
    • Store leftover pies in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

    FAQs

How can I cook these pies?

Our Thermomix Beef Pies can be cooked in a pie maker or in a muffin tray in the oven.

Can I make this beef pie recipe using an older Thermomix model?

Yes absolutely! This recipe is suitable for all Thermomix models.

Why do I need to remove the MC (measuring cup)?

This is for safety reasons. When cooking at high temperatures using the Thermomix, steam can build up when the MC is in place. Removing the MC and placing the rice basket or splatter guard over the MC hole allows steam to escape, while stoping splatters.

Yum!! I added zucchini and mushroom. A little watery so I might add less water but really yummy except fussy girl child. Sigh

Hi Catriona, I'm glad you enjoyed the recipe! I would suggest the zucchini has made the filling a little watery. You could try squeezing any excess liquid from grated zuchhini next time too 🙂

This made 6 pies in my pie tins which are 4/20 size. If I had known I wouldn’t have defrosted so much pastry. I also added an extra tablespoon of corn flour as it was too runny. Tastes good. I agree it’s a little sweet. Next time I’m adding some minced veg and using less tomato sauce. Prob half of what the recipe calls for.

I felt like the meat stuffing was too runny. How can I make it chunkier and more meatier

Hi Mona, if you like you could try reducing the amount of water and sauce. xx

I made this on the weekend and whilst it was really yummy i found it very sweet. In my second batch i left out the bbq sauce and it didnt make much of a difference. Any ideas on what i can add or omit to make it less sweet?
      Thanks

Hi Leanne, you could try using a different brand of tomato sauce perhaps?

I’m quite a pie fan. I have a breville from when pie makers became a thing. It makes 4 standard size pies. Your pies look smaller. Is the Kmart one for making party size pies? If so, do you think the recipe would suit bigger pies?

Hi Cherie, the Kmart one uses 4 pastry circles to one sheet of pastry (so bigger than party pies but perhaps not as big as yours!). xx
