RECIPE NOTES & TIPS
Dark Chocolate - choose a good quality white chocolate such as Cadbury, Lindt, Nestle or Hersheys.
Christmas M&Ms - These red and green M&Ms can be bought from the supermarket in the lead up to Christmas. If you can't find the special Christmas packs of M&Ms, you can simply use the red M&Ms from a regular pack. Or you can substitute them with red Skittles or Smarties.
edible eyes can be purchased from most major supermarkets or speciality baking stores. I purchase mine from Coles.
edible sugar dust or glitter adds an extra special look to the reindeer bark - however it is entirely optional.
have your pretzels chopped and ready to go before the chocolate has melted.
once the chocolate has melted, you'll need to work quickly to decorate so that the chocolate doesn't set.
if you live in a cold climate, warm your flat baking tray in the oven on a low heat before spreading the melted chocolate over the top. This will stop the melted chocolate from setting while you decorate.
store the reindeer bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week (or in the fridge if you live in a warm climate).
note: the pretzels are at their crunchiest on the day of making the bark and will soften over time (particularly if stored in the fridge or freezer).
Freezing - Freeze in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Allow to defrost in the fridge before consuming. Note: the M&Ms will lose some of their colour once frozen and defrosted and the pretzels will no longer be crunchy!
